How to use the Color Wheel
- Enter a starting color and choose a harmony rule. This RGB color wheel explores relationships between digital colors. Drag a wheel handle, or use its arrow keys, to adjust a shade.
- Use Complementary for opposing hues, Analogous for neighboring hues, or Triadic for three hues spaced around the wheel. These relationships suggest different kinds of color combinations; they do not decide how much of each color to use.
- Work with two to ten colors. Edit individual shades, lock colors you want to keep, and reorder the palette. Independent edits use a Custom relationship, so you can refine a useful result beyond the original rule.
- Use Undo and Redo to compare changes. Copy the colors, share the harmony, or download a palette. Save it to retain the colors, locks, order, and settings for later editing.
- Check text/background pairs with Color Contrast Checker and compare colors in Color Blindness Simulator before using the palette in an interface or chart.
Try blue with a complementary orange accent, or choose Analogous for neighboring blue and blue-green shades. Let one color dominate and use the others for support. A balanced-looking harmony may still need changes to lightness for readable text.
