Zodiac Colors and Their Meanings for All 12 Signs

Colorful circle with zodiac signs, dates, planets and elements

Colors affect us on so many levels. This guide is all about the astrological power of zodiac colors and their meanings. It will show you the right colors that go with your zodiac sign and how you can draw energy from these colors.

Each of us is born under a particular zodiac sign or astrological sign. This makes it possible to correlate the sequence of colors in the visible spectrum of light with each of these astrological signs.

The word zodiac can be translated roughly as the animal belt suspended between heaven and earth. This circular belt is divided into 12 segments of 30 degrees each, and each of them is associated with particular constellations.

Each of the twelve zodiac signs corresponding to the 12 segments is also associated with an animal as well as one of the elements (fire, water, earth, and air).

Based on ancient Chinese philosophy, each element is associated with different colors, so it is only natural that the zodiac signs are also linked to different colors.

So while your favorite color or colors may vary based on your tastes, there is a certain set of colors associated with your zodiac sign. Read on to find out what color or blend of colors is right for you.

What Do the Different Zodiac Colors Mean?

Zodiac colors carry important meanings. They also carry enough energy to shift your mood and that of others around you. Depending on the colors you use in your everyday life, you can completely change the tone of your surroundings or your own outlook for the better.

Starting with the first sign of the zodiac Aries, the colors associated with all the signs are given below.

  1. Aries (March 21 to April 19) – Zodiac Color: Red
  2. Taurus (April 20 to May 20) – Zodiac Color: Pink
  3. Gemini (May 21 to June 20) – Zodiac Color: Yellow
  4. Cancer (June 21 to July 22) – Zodiac Color: Silver
  5. Leo (July 23 to August 22) – Zodiac Color: Gold
  6. Virgo (August 23 to September 22) – Zodiac Color: Green
  7. Libra (September 23 to October 22) – Zodiac Color: Blue
  8. Scorpio (October 23 to November 21) – Zodiac Color: Black
  9. Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21) – Zodiac Color: Purple
  10. Capricorn (December 22 to January 19) – Zodiac Color: Brown
  11. Aquarius (January 20 to February 18) – Zodiac Color: Blue
  12. Pisces (February 19 to March 20) – Zodiac Color: Green

Aries (March 21 to April 19) – Zodiac Color: Red

Illustration of zodiac sign Aries
  • Element: Fire
  • Energy: Masculine
  • Quality: Cardinal
  • Planet: Mars
  • Colors: Red, orange, yellow, white

The first sign of the zodiac, Aries is an active fire sign with a strong positive energy and drive to succeed. The symbol of Aries is the ram, and the sign itself is closely associated with the planet Mars.

In Greek mythology, the symbol of the ram originally came from the legend of the Golden Fleece. Chrysomallus was a flying ram that rescued two royal children who were about to be offered up as a human sacrifice. Following the children’s dramatic escape, the ram returned to its father, Poseidon, and became the constellation Aries. The ram’s fleece remained in the house of the sun god Helios.

If your birthday falls between March 21st and April 19th, you’re an Aries. Other famous Aries personalities include Reese Witherspoon, Jackie Chan, and Lil Nas X. In order to really harness the energy associated with your star sign, the color you should use both for decorating and for dressing is probably going to be red.

Aries Power Color: Red

Because Aries is a fire sign and associated with the planet Mars, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that its primary color is red. The bright, fiery tone of most red objects call to mind the strength and energy of those born under this particular sign.

Throughout history, the color red has had two main connotations: love and violence. Both of these connotations are joined by a single common factor: passion. Although some may see red as too aggressive or too violent, the color can also symbolize a strength of devotion and a zeal for life.

From a physiological perspective, red has a real, observable impact on the human body. The color red can elevate the heart rate, increase blood pressure, and overall put people in a more “excitable” state. It essentially works as a physical stimulant, stimulating the adrenal gland and leaving people more ready to take action.

Vivacious, exciting, and full of life, the color red is a perfect match for the vibrant energy of the Aries sign.

Other Colors

While red is the primary color associated with Aries, there are some other colors that often are attributed to the same sign. Keeping with the same fire theme, the colors most often linked to Aries are orange, yellow, and white.

As a general rule, any warm and bright shades often end up being linked to fire signs. The orange used for Aries should be a bright, almost neon orange in order to capture the energy and excitement of that sign. Orange symbolizes change, growth, energy, and a love of life.

Like red, orange often tends to have a physiological impact on the human body. It can stimulate the appetite, which is why so many restaurants tend to use orange in their advertising.

Overall, however, it’s just another example of the excitable, emotional energy that those born under the Aries sign tend to give off in everything that they do!

Taurus (April 20 to May 20) – Zodiac Color: Pink

Illustration of zodiac sign Taurus
  • Element: Earth
  • Energy: Feminine
  • Quality: Fixed
  • Planet: Venus
  • Colors: Pink, pastel blue and purple

The next zodiac sign is Taurus, an earth element with a negative or feminine polarity that is named after one of the oldest constellations in the night sky. As a result, Taurus is actually considered to be the “oldest” zodiac sign as well, and many ancient cultures ascribed special significance to the “Heavenly Bull”, the constellation through which the sun rose. In addition to the constellation, Taurus is typically associated with the planet Venus.

Because it predates many of the major astrological societies, Taurus doesn’t have ties to any one myth or legend. Instead, the sacred bull appears in many ancient cultures as an object of reverence and devotion that stands the test of time.

If your birthday falls between April 20th and May 20th, you’re a Taurus! Other famous Tauruses include Dwayne Johnson, Robert Pattinson, and Adele. If you’re a Taurus, pink is the main color that you’re going to want to keep in mind while dressing or while decorating.

Taurus Power Color: Pink

Despite the fact that it predates Greek mythology as a zodiac sign, Taurus’s association with the planet Venus means that it’s often linked to the goddess Venus or Aphrodite. As Aphrodite was the goddess of love, it only makes sense that the color associated with this domain should be one of the most sweetly romantic colors ever: pink!

Pink is often associated with feminine love as well as with innocence, childlike wonder, and first crushes. Audrey Hepburn once famously stated that she “believed in pink” as a way of encouraging her audience to embrace the lighter, more “frivolous” aspects of life.

Pink doesn’t always have to seem lighthearted, however. It can also represent passivity or naiveté. The same traits that make it such a powerful symbol of youth and innocent expressionism can also leave people reluctant to take the color seriously.

If you find yourself leaning more towards pink, embrace it and don’t worry about what others think!

Other Colors

As a general rule, any other traditionally “feminine” colors can also go hand in hand with the Taurus sign. While pink is far and away the most popular associated color, think of pastel blues and purples in order to round out your Taurus color palette and elevate it to a higher level of coordination and synergy.

These softer, warmer colors have long been associated with traditionally feminine energies, but that doesn’t mean that they’re off limit if you identify as male! A softer splash of color can help round out an outfit or your surroundings, turning them from something harsh into something warm, inviting, and engaging.

Taurus is typically considered a beautiful, stabilizing, and steadying sign. As a result, all of the colors associated with this sign tend to represent peace, stability, and the power to change the world around you in order to make it more of a place where you want to live instead of the place it was before.

Gemini (May 21 to June 20) – Zodiac Color: Yellow

Illustration of zodiac sign Gemini
  • Element: Air
  • Energy: Masculine
  • Quality: Mutable
  • Planet: Mercury
  • Colors: Yellow, bright green and blue

The third zodiac sign is Gemini or “the twins”. The twin stars that set this sign’s constellation apart have been used for navigation for millennia, with the ancient Babylonians revering the stars as the Great Twins. In Babylonian astronomy, the stars were named Lugal-irra and Meslamta-ea, two alternative titles for Nergal, the god of plague, pestilence, and the underworld.

To the ancient Greeks, the two stars were Castor and Pollux, two half brothers from the same mortal mother. When Castor, who was fully mortal, died, his brother Pollux begged his own father Zeus to let him share his immortality with his dying brother. As a result, both brothers were preserved in the stars to live forever.

Today, Gemini is an air sign, heavily associated with the planet Mercury and covering birthdays spanning from May 21st to June 20th. Famous Geminis include Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and Tom Holland. In terms of color, Geminis should try to look for bright yellow shades.

Gemini Power Color: Yellow

It may seem a bit strange that an air sign is linked to the color yellow, but it actually makes sense given the mythological associations of the Gemini sign. The god Mercury, in Greek mythology, was a clever, fast-paced, somewhat capricious deity who carried the gods’ messages around the world.

As a result, yellow seems like the perfect fit for that same lively energy. Yellow often symbolizes a cheerful, exciting sense of exploration and change. It often evokes images of late sunshine-y days or brightly colored blossoms in an open field.

Yellow can also have some negative connotations. It is sometimes associated with a sickly nature and can come off as overly bright and aggressive. Again, this makes it a perfect fit for the quickly-changing, always evolving attitude of the average Gemini.

No matter what your primary association of yellow is, the color can match just about any mood and stick with you throughout any sudden shifts or rapid lifestyle changes.

Other Colors

While yellow is the most popular choice for the Gemini power color, there are a few other, less well-known options available when you want to switch it up. Try and stick with the overall brightness and warmth of your sign, no matter what color you ultimately prefer best.

The second most common color for Geminis is green. Steer clear of deep or dark greens, however, and try to capture some of that same Gemini warmth, brightness, and sunshine-y cheer with the shades of green you choose. Green is a great choice for Geminis as it often goes hand in hand with the same ideas of change, growth, development, and new potential that set Geminis apart from other signs on the zodiac wheel.

Some Geminis prefer a bright blue for their power color. Again, this color symbolizes the optimism and open-air energy of the sign while still reflecting its ability to change on a moment’s notice to something darker and more tempestuous.

Cancer (June 21 to July 22) – Zodiac Color: Silver

Illustration of zodiac sign Cancer
  • Element: Water
  • Energy: Feminine
  • Quality: Cardinal
  • Planet: The Moon
  • Colors: Silver, white, pale blue, gray, cream

Next up is Cancer, the fourth astrological sign and the first water sign! Cancer is associated with the moon. Because it’s a water sign, it should come as no surprise that it is also sometimes associated with the planet Neptune, named after the Greek god of the seas.

Today, the constellation of Cancer is actually made up of a cluster of stars. It’s said to resemble an upside-down crab, but this wasn’t always how it was seen. The ancient Egyptians saw the constellation as a scarab beetle, while early Mesopotamian astronomers saw it as a turtle. By medieval times, the crab had become the standard representation of Cancer, however, and was seen as the guardian of the city of Verona.

Cancer birthdays lie anywhere between June 21st to July 22nd. Famous Cancers include Ariana Grande, Elon Musk, Tom Cruise, and Princess Diana. The main color associated with this particular astrological sign is silver, although pale blue and white are sometimes also associated with Cancer.

Cancer Power Color: Silver

As mentioned earlier, Cancer is the sign of the moon. As a result, the cool silver tones of its primary color just make sense. It’s a calm, healing color that puts the viewer in mind of moonlit nights or time spent underwater.

Silver is often associated with wealth or success, but it can also have a slightly more dangerous side. In several ancient cultures, silver was seen as deceitful, enigmatic, or otherwise insincere. Cancers are often known to be evasive or even outright deceptive, so take care when wearing too much silver!

Finally, silver has long been associated with moon deities throughout history. In this light, silver represents the calling to a higher purpose, the strive for meaning, and the desire to rise above the current surroundings and make something greater of oneself.

If you find yourself drawn to the color silver, it’s easy to work into your wardrobe in the form of watches, rings, or other accessories that can boost your power color without being overwhelming.

Other Colors

Sticking with the theme of cool or receptive colors, other common colors for Cancer include white, pale blue, gray, or cream. Again, you’ll want to keep the “moon” theme in mind as you choose which colors are right for you in your wardrobe and in your interior design.

White typically represents purity and innocence, although it can also represent clinical detachment or a distant or “empty” energy. Overall, however, its general meaning is one of hope, optimism, and a striving for a better future.

We’ve already looked briefly at what the color blue represents, but gray is another relaxing, soothing color that can symbolize maturity and intellectualism. Unfortunately, it can also symbolize indecision and a willingness to go unnoticed in the right settings. Nevertheless, it’s a cool, almost aloof color that can elevate any environment into something a little bit more polished and professional-looking than whatever that environment may have previously appeared to be.

Leo (July 23 to August 22) – Zodiac Color: Gold

Illustration of zodiac sign Leo
  • Element: Fire
  • Energy: Masculine
  • Quality: Fixed
  • Planet: The Sun
  • Colors: Gold, yellow, orange, purple, red

Unlike the other signs we’ve looked at so far, the fifth astrological sign, Leo, is not associated with any particular planet. Instead, it’s closely associated with the sun, which only makes sense considering that it is one of the most prominent fire signs in the zodiac.

In Greek mythology, the constellation Leo was the final resting place of the Nemean lion, a ferocious animal whose fur was impervious to any weapon. The lion would kidnap women from the surrounding towns in order to lure their rescuers back to its cave, where they would be devoured. Hercules fought the lion and slew it with his bare hands, and Zeus placed the lion among the stars to commemorate his victory.

If you were born between July 23rd and August 22nd, you’re a Leo. Other famous Leos include Barack Obama, Tom Brady, Demi Lovato, and Jennifer Lopez. The main color associated with Leo is gold, a tribute to the tawny fur of the lion.

Leo Power Color: Gold

As soon as you see it, gold symbolizes wealth. One of the most precious materials found in nature, gold has long been a symbol of power, prestige, strength, and influence. In many cultures, including medieval Christian societies, gold was linked to divinity and the presence of the divine.

To some, gold may be seen as flashy, pretentious, or even a little bit arrogant. However, the warmth and clarity found in pure gold is usually enough to overcome that image so that the end result is a stunning, vibrant color that symbolizes compassion, generosity, and a boundless sense of optimism.

Leo’s association with the color gold most likely comes from its association with the sun. Nevertheless, some believe that it also may have arisen as a result of Leo’s association with the Nemean lion. The fur of the animal was said to have shone like gold, no matter what weapons were used upon its surface, and its unique qualities remained after its death.

Other Colors

Some of the other colors associated with the Leo sign may not be as intuitive as you might expect. Obviously burnt orange carries some of the same connotations – the reckless energy, the strength and courage and zeal for life – but purple may seem relatively unexpected.

The link between Leos and a deep royal purple stems mostly from purple’s association with nobility. Just as gold is often seen as a symbol of wealth and influence, deep purple used to be reserved for only the richest and most powerful individuals in many ancient cultures.

This exclusivity actually stems from the extreme difficulty involved in making purple cloth. The only source of this rich, almost black dye was a series of snails or mollusks that lived in a very specific part of the ancient world. As a result, the dye was extremely difficult to produce and therefore all the more valuable.

It may be a lot easier to get purple cloth today, but the associations still remain and help set Leo apart as the proud and noble sign.

Virgo (August 23 to September 22) – Zodiac Color: Green

Illustration of zodiac sign Virgo
  • Element: Earth
  • Energy: Feminine
  • Quality: Mutable
  • Planet: Mercury
  • Colors: Green, brown, muted yellow, orange and red

Virgo is the sixth zodiac sign, an earth element that’s heavily linked with the planet Mercury. Its symbol is the Maiden or the Virgin, which usually takes the form of a young woman, and is often associated with wheat and agriculture. The idea that the constellation Virgo represents a maiden is present in many ancient cultures around the world, not just in Greek mythology.

Nevertheless, the Greek goddess Astraea, goddess of purity, justice, and innocence, is most often associated with the Virgo constellation. According to the myth, Astraea was the last of the immortals to abandon earth, even after the other gods had long stopped walking among humans. When she finally left, she ascended to the heavens to live among the stars. Other common associations include the Virgin Mary in Christian tradition.

Virgo birthdays are found between August 23rd and September 22nd. The most common Virgo color is green, and famous Virgos include Beyonce, Kobe Bryant, Freddie Mercury, and Zendaya.

Virgo Power Color: Green

Green has basically always been the color of growth. As Virgo is an earth element with strong ties to agriculture and new life, it only makes sense for green to be its power colors. The specific shade of green isn’t nearly as important as what this color represents, namely generosity, prosperity, luck, and new life.

Green can sometimes be associated with envious or judgmental behavior – you’ve almost certainly heard the saying “green with envy” – but even those negative connotations can be traced back to the quick-moving, always-changing energy that makes green so beloved.

Green is also typically tied to the personification of Mother Earth. This ties into the Virgo mythology as well, as Demeter, goddess of the earth and agriculture, was often linked to the Virgo constellation before the previously-mentioned mythology was fully established.

The color green also carries feelings of relaxation and safety. Like blue, it has a soothing effect on the mind and can help you clear away some of your worries at the end of a long day.

Other Colors

As with many of the other entries on this list, the main idea behind most of Virgo’s other colors mostly boils down to sticking with the same color family. In this specific case, that means that the other popular power colors include various earth tones like browns, muted yellows, and other richer hues.

We already touched on the importance of green to the Virgo sign, but the rich browns, yellows, oranges and reds that make up most earth tones tie into that same sense of grounded practicality and the potential for life.

In general, you’ll want to stick with an almost autumnal color palette to really capture the unique energy and distinctly grounded energies that set Virgo apart from the other busier or more aggressive signs.

Libra (September 23 to October 22) – Zodiac Color: Blue

Illustration of zodiac sign Libra
  • Element: Air
  • Energy: Masculine
  • Quality: Cardinal
  • Planet: Venus
  • Colors: Blue, pastel pink, pistachio green, lavender, peach orange

The seventh astrological sign in the zodiac, Libra is the main air sign. The ancient Romans believed Libra to be the perfect sign or the “balanced sign”, both because of its relatively stable day and night cycle and because the moon was said to be in Libra when Rome was first established.

The constellation Libra is often represented as a set of scales. In Greek mythology, the scales belonged to Themis, who was the physical embodiment of divine law and serves as the inspiration for the images of Lady Justice that we see in our courthouses today. The same theme of balance that crops up in myths surrounding Themis and her scales can be seen throughout our understanding of the Libra sign.

If your birthday is between September 23rd and October 22nd, you’re a Libra, which means that you should look for blue in all you do. Some other famous Libras include Kim Kardashian, Will Smith, Snoop Dogg, and Bella Thorne.

Libra Power Color: Blue

We’ve briefly mentioned the physiological impact of cooler colors like green, but it is without a doubt that blue is the most soothing color. The color blue has been shown to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, and instill a hopeful sense of calm that can create a refuge in our busy world.

As a result, blue is often symbolic of peace, reliability, and quiet optimism. Blue is often considered an “honest” color in that it conveys a sense of trustworthiness and dependability.

To some, blue may appear as overly conservative, predictable, or even a little bit sad. Nevertheless, if you’ve found yourself in a hectic situation and are looking to restore some of the calm that we all so desperately need, blue might just be the way to go.

Libra’s power color tends towards lighter blue, but any shade is powerful.

Other Colors

Because Libra’s power color technically skews towards the lighter side of the color spectrum, the other colors associated with this sign tend to be on the lighter side as well. In general, you’ll want to look for cool pastel shades.

Other power colors for Libra include pastel pink, pistachio green, lavender, and peach orange. The primary difference between each of these colors and their more vibrant relatives is the aggression of the “normal” colors.

Libra is ruled by Venus, and the sign strives for harmony and balance. As a result, many of Libra’s power colors appear more muted, more peaceful, and less “in your face” than their traditional counterparts.

Stick with these soothing colors as a general guideline, but don’t be afraid to push the boundaries into a slightly warmer territory. The important thing is that you continue to focus on the balance, harmony, and sense of overall calm that most pastel shades – along with basically any shade of blue – can provide.

Scorpio (October 23 to November 21) – Zodiac Color: Black

Illustration of zodiac sign Scorpio
  • Element: Water
  • Energy: Feminine
  • Quality: Fixed
  • Planet: Pluto
  • Colors: Black, blood red, crimson, maroon, deep purple, navy blue

The second of our three water signs, Scorpio is the eighth sign in the zodiac and is considered both a negative and fixed sign. As the name might suggest, Scorpio is traditionally associated with the scorpion, although it is sometimes linked to the phoenix or the snake as well.

The constellation Scorpius has been marked by philosophers and astronomers alike for thousands of years. The ancient Babylonians referred to the shape made by the constellation as “the creature with a burning sting”, and in Greek mythology, the scorpion was the creature sent by Artemis and her mother to kill the proud hunter, Orion. Different myths provide different motivations for Artemis’s decision, but once Orion was killed, Zeus raised the scorpion and the hunter into the stars, where they hunt each other for eternity.

Scorpio birthdays range from October 23rd to November 21st. The Scorpio’s color is black, and some famous Scorpios include Bob Ross, Katy Perry, Bill Gates, and Hilary Clinton.

Scorpio Power Color: Black

At first glance, the color black may seem to have far more negative connotations than positive ones. In most Western cultures, black is the color of mourning, and many overwhelmingly associate this color with sadness, loss, depression, or grief. Even beyond that, black is often considered a dominant, overly aggressive color, and that can be off-putting for a lot of people.

However, for most of history, black has also been associated with strength, authority, power, and influence. To the ancient Egyptians and many other ancient cultures, black was actually the color of life, as it called to mind the rich and fertile soil of a ready field. It’s only in relatively recent years that the color black has started to get a bad reputation.

Even today, the color black is a sophisticated, elegant color that elevates any event and provides a taste of mysterious luxury. The timeless class and effortless prestige should be more than enough to outweigh any fleeting negativity.

Other Colors

In keeping with Scorpio’s power color themes of wealth, luxury, and passion, most of the other colors associated with Scorpio are darkly dramatic and effortlessly intriguing. If you’re going for a warmer color, go for blood reds, crimsons, and maroons in order to capture some of the dazzling sophistication that often accompanies the Scorpio sign.

If you tend to favor cooler colors, black is still a very popular shade for fashion and interior design, but it doesn’t have to be that dark. Look for deep, rich purples or navy blues. The intensity of these colors tend to carry some of the same influence and importance that black and red normally do without having to veer all the way into the aggressive strength of those tones.

Overall, the Scorpio colors should be bold and dramatic, no matter the specific shade. As long as you stick with colors that have everyone’s eyes on you, it’s very difficult to go wrong as a Scorpio.

Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21) – Zodiac Color: Purple

Illustration of zodiac sign Sagittarius
  • Element: Fire
  • Energy: Masculine
  • Quality: Mutable
  • Planet: Jupiter
  • Colors: Purple, dark blue, plum

Sagittarius, the ninth astrological sign, is a fire sign associated with the planet Jupiter and represented by the symbol of a centaur. It is considered a “mutable sign”, which means that it’s a sign associated with change.

The centaur used to depict Sagittarius is often identified with the centaur Chiron in Greek mythology. Chiron was a mentor of Achilles and a trainer of heroes who was renowned for his wisdom and patience.

Other interpretations see Sagittarius as a different centaur, an archer and prophet who never failed to hit his target. In ancient and medieval times, it was believed that prophets and fortune tellers were born under the sign of Sagittarius, and to this day, those born under Sagittarius are often seen as wise and intelligent.

Sagittarius birthdays are found between November 22nd and December 21st. Their primary color is purple, and their numbers are rounded out by no less illustrious personages than Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt, Jay-Z, and Britney Spears.

Sagittarius Power Color: Purple

We’ve touched on purple in some of our earlier entries, but it is only under Sagittarius that the sheer impact of purple’s symbolism comes to bear. Purple is the color of royalty, but it’s also the color of wisdom and mystery.

As mentioned above, Sagittarius was long believed to be the sign under which prophets, mystics, and seers were born. Many centaurs in Greek mythology had the gift of prophecy, and so it should come as no surprise that purple is often associated with spirituality, wisdom, fantasy, and foresight.

Whether you prefer the deep royal purple tones or a lighter lavender shade, purple is a truly magical color that fires the imagination and brings a new drive to daily interactions. On the negative side, purple can be associated with high-strung emotions, sensitivity, or even immaturity, but otherwise, it is a noble color with a rich history of luxury, intrigue, and brushes with a higher plane of existence.

Other Colors

Unlike some of the other signs we’ve looked at so far, Sagittarius is not a sign that allows for a great deal of variation. Indeed, all of Sagittarius’s power colors fall within the same general color scheme. If you want an alternative to true royal purple, consider dark blue or plum instead.

As with Scorpio’s power colors, the main significance of Sagittarius’s color family is their visual impact. Sagittarius has long been linked with mysticism and magic in all of its forms, and the dark blues, reds, and purples of its power colors are chosen to put the viewer in mind of that history.

The dark tones and rich cultural impact of Sagittarius’s colors often go hand in hand with the esteemed position those born under the Sagittarius sign are often said to naturally gravitate towards, regardless of their original standing or place in this world. Sagittarius will always rise to a new position, and its colors reflect that drive.

Capricorn (December 22 to January 19) – Zodiac Color: Brown

Illustration of zodiac sign Capricorn
  • Element: Earth
  • Energy: Feminine
  • Quality: Cardinal
  • Planet: Saturn
  • Colors: Brown, black, white, gray

The third earth sign on this list, Capricorn is the tenth sign overall in the zodiac order and is ruled by the planet Saturn. It’s a negative sign and a cardinal sign, which means that it appears in the Western hemisphere during the spring.

The symbol of Capricorn is the goat. Specifically, it’s a goat with the lower body and tail of a fish. Because Capricorn is one of the older signs of the zodiac, this symbol actually predates Greek mythology and Babylonian mythology. Enki, the ancient Sumerian god of wisdom and intelligence, was typically represented as a half-goat, half-fish creature. Despite this sign’s association with the earth, Enki was also the god of water, lake water, and seawater.

Capricorn birthdays lie between December 22nd and January 19th. Their color typically falls within the brown color family, although other, typically earth-toned colors are also associated with the sign. Famous Capricorns include LeBron James, Timothee Chalamet, Martin Luther King Jr., and Meghan Trainor.

Capricorn Power Color: Brown

If you’re worried about brown being a “boring” color, don’t be afraid to explore a little bit more! Brown as a color has long been symbolic of strength, wisdom, and an ability to withstand the test of time in order to prevail.

Brown is often used to symbolize maturity and a sharp, keen intelligence. It also was valued by most ancient societies for the same reason as black: the rich tones of this color reflect the potential for growth and the possibility for new life. This ties into Capricorn’s status as an earth element, as brown is one of the strongest colors of the earth.

Brown can also be used to symbolize a sense of ironclad moral standing. Brown is often linked to loyalty, family, and a strong moral code that sets those born under Capricorn’s sign apart from the world around them that seems to constantly be losing its way.

Other Colors

Within the body, Capricorn is typically linked to the bones, teeth, and skin. As a result, Capricorn’s other power colors are related to that sense of cold, sharp determination and steadfast perseverance.

As discussed earlier, gray is a cool symbol of stability and professionalism. We’ve also already looked at how black can represent luxury, intrigue, and sophistication. In addition to black and gray, Capricorns may find themselves naturally drawn towards darker browns than what you may typically consider when you first think of “brown”.

Overall, look for sharp, clean colors in a wide range of earth tones, but don’t be afraid to go a little bit darker. Capricorn is an earth sign first and foremost, and that allows for some adaptability when choosing colors. Nevertheless, Capricorn as a sign tends to favor neutral shades of black, white, brown and gray in order to create a reserved, reliable, and at times inscrutable face to show the world.

Aquarius (January 20 to February 18) – Zodiac Color: Blue

Illustration of zodiac sign Aquarius
  • Element: Air
  • Energy: Masculine
  • Quality: Fixed
  • Planet: Uranus
  • Colors: Blue, turquoise, aquamarine, white, bright gold

Aquarius is another air sign, ruled both by the planet Saturn and the planet Uranus, although Uranus has become the more popular choice in modern times. Its symbol is the water-bearer, typically represented as a young man carrying a container of water or pouring water from his container.

In Greek mythology, the constellation Aquarius was placed in the sky to commemorate Ganymede, cup-bearer to the gods. According to the myth, Ganymede was the prince of Troy, and his beauty was so great that Zeus fell in love with him at first sight. He whisked the boy away to the home of the gods and granted him immortality in return for an eternity of service at the gods’ feasts and revelries.

Today, the constellation Aquarius is most often known as the best place to see meteor showers. Aquarius birthdays fall between January 20th and February 18th, and the primary Aquarius color is blue. Famous Aquariuses include Harry Styles, Michael Jordan, Ellen Degeneres, and Shakira.

Aquarius Power Color: Blue

It’s right there in the name, so it shouldn’t really be surprising that Aquarius’s main power color is bright blue. The main difference between this shade of blue and the blues we’ve seen used for other zodiac signs is the strength of the color as well as its energy.

While other zodiac signs tend to favor either pale, pastel blues or dark, dramatic blues, Aquarius favors bright and cheerful shades of blue that remind viewers of the open sea or the sky above. Aquarius tends to be associated with the bioelectric centers of the body, which may explain why those born under that sign gravitate towards exciting, energetic shades of blue.

Look for blues that have a slight green tint to them, or blues that are a little bit brighter than what you typically think of. These shades symbolize life, change, and a potential to grow and evolve that moves past the usual connotations of the color blue.

Other Colors

Because Aquarius is an air sign instead of a water sign, you may want to stay away from colors that look a little bit too ocean-y. As a result, deeper greens and darker black or purple shades may feel a little bit over-dramatic or even slightly depressing.

Instead, you may find yourself drawn towards other typically “airy” colors. Look for pale yellows or bright golds that reflect the movements of the celestial bodies in the sky. White is another popular choice for many Aquariuses, as it reflects the bright energy of the open air and the blinding warmth of the sun above. Look for colors that exude warmth, energy, and a potential to completely change at the drop of a hat.

Overall, however, it’s probably a good idea to stay within the “true” Aquarius color scheme, which means sticking to the equally calming and intriguing off-blue shades of turquoise blue and aquamarine.

Pisces (February 19 to March 20) – Zodiac Color: Green

Illustration of zodiac sign Pisces
  • Element: Water
  • Energy: Feminine
  • Quality: Mutable
  • Planet: Neptune
  • Colors: Green, indigo, blue-gray, green-gray

The twelfth and final astrological sign, Pisces is a negative water sign, traditionally ruled by the planet Jupiter and today more often associated with the planet Neptune. Pisces is literally the Latin word for “fishes”, so it’s no surprise that the symbol of this sign is a pair of fishes, usually koi.

In some Greek myths, the constellation Pisces represents the fish who helped the goddess Aphrodite and her son escape “the father of all monsters” by letting her change her shape and hide herself among them. In other myths, Aphrodite hid herself and her son within an egg that fell into the river. When the fishes rolled the egg to dry land, Aphrodite emerged and placed the fish constellation in the night sky as a symbol of gratitude.

Pisces birthdays range from February 19th to March 20th. The traditional color for Pisces individuals is green. Famous Pisces include Justin Bieber, Adam Levine, Simone Biles, and Camila Cabello.

Pisces Power Color: Green

Unlike the previous entry, Pisces is very heavily associated with the ocean, and so too should the colors of this zodiac sign be. Across the board, the best color for Pisces is a seafoam green. As the name implies, this light, almost pastel shade reflects the boundless energy and constantly shifting waves of the open sea.

It may look almost blue at first glance, but the strong green undertones of seafoam green help to provide a sense of life and excitement to what would otherwise be a pastel color. Green symbolizes life, growth, change, and luck, and all of those energies and potentials are captured in the shades of green that Pisces prefers.

The slightly calmer notes of seafoam green also tie into the stabilizing and harmonizing qualities of the average Pisces. As your drive to unite those around you increases, your affinity for these specific shades of green may increase as well.

Other Colors

Again, because of Pisces’s strong attachment to the sea, most of the colors favored by this sign are going to fall within the same general scope. Where Scorpio strives for drama and Sagittarius for mysticism, Pisces strives for the empathy, harmony, and power of the sea.

Look for shades of blue and green that remind you of the ocean. Indigo, most shades of blue, and most shades of dark blue-green will fall within your power color wheel, and you should never hesitate to lean into any of the colors that make you feel more at ease.

If you tend more towards neutrals, look for blue-grays or green-grays that call to mind the way that the sea looks after the storm. Pisces is one of the stronger water signs, and you should never be afraid to embrace the particular qualities that set your sign apart from the rest of the signs in the zodiac cycle.
